Writing Consulting
Writing consulting is advising the new author on where to add flavor to their manuscript. Well written manuscripts, which will become a book that readers will want to read and pass on to friends and family fully captures the five senses: What does it smell like? What does it sound like? What does it feel like? What does it look like? How does it taste? Bearhead Publishing LLC offers writing consulting services to current and prospective authors.
What is writing consulting?
The new author that contracts with Bearhead Publishing for writing consulting has places in their manuscript where these senses are lacking, or absent. We help the writer see these gaps and empower them to fill in the information that is vividly in their mind, but has not yet made it to paper.
Silly typos, spelling errors, and incorrect use of grammar are also pointed out to the new author, so that their new book will be as grammatically clean as possible.
Bearhead Publishing also strongly recommends that the new author get someone that they trust, that does not have an emotional attachment to the book (that does not charge them to do a read through), to read over the manuscript before it is rolled out. They will catch silly mistakes that the new author cannot see and that the writing consultant might overlook because of focusing on more important aspects of making the manuscript great.
At the same time, there are only two perfect books: One fiction; one non-fiction, the Bible and Lord of Rings (which took forty years). We do not want the author to edit to the extent that it takes forty years or they end up sanitizing something great.
Who is it for?
Writing consulting is excellent service offered for new authors, as well as seasoned authors. Why? When you write you see everything clearly in your mind, but the mind can fool you into thinking that you have also put what’s in your mind down on paper. A writing consultant, with fresh eyes, and no idea as to the plot of the story, can see the areas that are lacking clarity and advise the author, so that they can fill in these gaps and make a good manuscript into what will become a great book.
Why would I need it?
To make a good manuscript into a soon to be great book. As mentioned above, to take weak areas and turn them into strong, captivating scenes. All of the sudden, characters in a book become the reader’s new best friends.
How do you charge?
The charge is variable, depending on the amount of coaching needed. The price is agreed upon between the writing consultant and the new author before any consulting is begun. But Bearhead Publishing rates are some of the best in the industry. Half is paid after half the manuscript is read and advised upon, with the remainder due when the manuscript has been fully read. The writing consultant also checks in, via e-mail, with the new author within reading just a few chapters to make sure that the new writer is getting definite benefit from the suggestions being made.
Writing consulting is more economical than what you might think. Especially if the new author has been in touch with other “editors”. There is a staunch difference between editors and Bearhead Publishing’s writing consulting service. An editor is someone who has been trained on the technical aspects of the writing process, but generally doesn’t have any creative skills to write a full time novel. Quite frankly, if editors were that great at writing novels, then they would be published. The majority are not. Editors have their place in the publishing process, but it is not at Bearhead Publishing. At Bearhead Publishing, you are working with a seasoned writing professional, who has an interest in your success, not in just making a deposit in the bank from your checking account
