Author Marketing

If a tree falls in the forest… you get the idea. If no one knows about your book, then how do you expect it to sell? Bearhead Publishing LLC offers different types of author marketing services to help you learn how to market to your audience.

What is author marketing?

In its purest form, marketing is the activity of communicating your value to your current and prospective readers. Your goal is to get them to purchase your books and to become a fan of your writing.

“Author marketing” is more than selling a tangible good (i.e. your book), it’s about your personal brand.

Who is it for?

All authors, but especially for authors just rolling their first book into the marketplace. They need to build their pipeline for readers/fans. So that when the next book comes out, they can simply send notice and then mail autographed books.

Why would I choose this?

For new authors, the goal is to build a pipeline of readers and fans. This will help to develop a presence in the marketplace and subsequently to make a profit off of book sales.

For existing authors, the goal is to spread their market presence even more. We guide you in building your personal brand in the marketplace so that you can expand your readership pipeline which will result in more sales.

How do you charge?

As an example, we charge an agreed upon amount for 5,000 bookmarks when the publishing contract and book order form are signed with a new author. Other services are priced separately and are discussed at contract signing time.

When do I need to think about this?

As soon as you write the very last word of your manuscript and start consider rolling your manuscript into the marketplace or talking to small press or even traditional publishers. Regardless of who publishes your book, you will have to market yourself and your book. People don’t care who the publisher is. They want to get to know the author. You are selling yourself as well as your book to your newfound friend/reader/fan.

What does the process involve?

Author’s bookmarks are one of their biggest marketing tool, other than themselves. They are instructed to pass out bookmarks to anyone that says they are a reader. People reading books in public places (or even buying books in public places) are also fair game. Bearhead Publishing instructs the author to introduce themselves to the reader, tell them they are a new author, and give them a bookmark.

Authors will be given a list of online social sites that they need to join. Authors need to be singing their book’s song in every venue available. A slew of people are on sites like Facebook and Twitter everyday, so even if the person following the author is not a reader, chances is they have friends, family members, associates that are. The object is for the author to get their book in front of as many people as they possible can.

Making up a list of a minimum 100 people that you know, associate with, and/or do business with. Sending notices, both from the author and Bearhead Publishing about the new author and the phenomenal new read they now have available that no one should be without. And they get a personally, autographed copy to boot!
