The launch party for Sandy Payne’s first children’s book, Find Your Magic, last Monday at the Greentree Mall was a rousing success!

All the books on hand were quickly sold. Thanks to all who came out to support this wonderful new children’s author and the illustrator, Nancy Goodpaster, and most of all the LilySarahGrace Charitable Fund that all the proceeds from this book are going to.

The Shopp's of Otter Creek

Bearhead Publishing, recently relocated  to Brandenburg KY, is  pleased  to announce that they will be a part of the “Shoppes At Otter Creek”, located on Hwy 1638 a major throughfare leading to Otter Creek WMA.  Gary, Publisher for Bearhead Publishing, has been looking for a classy retail location for his growing list of talented authors.  The ”Shoppes At Otter Creek”  will feature local and regional Kentucky Artisians and Craftfolks and the atmosphere is just what Bearhead Publishing has been looking for!  Gary said “it has been a long time coming to find a retail outlet that is reasonably priced and has the excellent quality merchandise that Bearhead Publishing wanted to be associated with.”

The “Shoppes At Otter Creek” will open Nov. 1st and will host Sissy Marlyn for the opening.  The date for the Grand Opening Ceremony has yet to be announced, but it’s a good bet that several authors with Bearhead Publishing will be on hand to sell and sign their books!  Check back often for updates to this exciting development!

Author Kevin Gibson takes center stage at new Reader’s Corner Bookstore

Bearhead Publishing is happy to announce that Kevin Gibson will be at the new Reader’s Corner bookstore this Saturday, July 9 from 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.  The new store is located at 2044 Frankfort Avenue.

Kevin and another local author were recently featured in an article in the LEO.

T.E. Lyons writes of Kevin:

Kevin Gibson — whose reliable byline has graced LEO and other periodicals around town for a long time — is presenting his first novel, “The Liberation of Crystal Hill.” The reading/signing will take place at A Reader’s Corner (at its new Clifton location, 2044 Frankfort Ave.) on Saturday, July 9, at 1 p.m.

The book’s plot has mysterious events disturbing the residents of an Indiana town. Family and community become frayed as fear takes hold. Gibson’s young protagonist finds he must deal with specters more dangerous, and closer to home, than the ghost of a Civil War hero.

Gibson’s portrayal of the spookier and more contentious sides of small-town life includes evocative scenes in a cemetery. Gibson tells LEO that this setting was inspired by a visit to one in New Albany — “a very old cemetery that’s kind of out of the way. It has in it a number of unmarked pauper graves, and also some graves of people who died many years ago in a steamboat explosion.”

The path to publication for this novel is one many aspiring writers can relate to. “The Liberation of Crystal Hill” evolved as an expansion of an award-winning short story Gibson wrote in the 1990s. He completed a book-length manuscript not long after — but when no publisher could be found at that time, he set the work aside for about a decade. “I got it out again three or four years ago and did some rewrites,” he says. “Then a good friend of mine introduced me to Bearhead Publishing — a grassroots company that helps budding writers get their stuff out there.” As he enjoys the good notices and feelings of accomplishment from finally getting this work into bookstores, Gibson is already back to the keyboard — and his next subject, he says, is zombies.

So Bearhead Publishing strongly encourages you to venture out to A Reader’s Corner Bookstore Saturday, visit with Kevin, and purchase an autographed copy of his novel for yourself or as a treasured gift for someone else.

Be sure to post your comments about Kevin’s signing on this blog.  Kevin loves reader’s comments and so does Bearhead Publishing!
